CIty to hold cycling open house
Oct 11, 2013 / 3:06 pm
Penticton has delayed implementation of bike lanes in the Ellis Street area pending a further consultation opportunity.
Councillor Andrew Jakubeit said the reason for the open house next week is twofold.
One is the opportunity for residents who say they didn't get notice to comment on that section, the other is to address parking in front of some of the businesses and homes.
"I think some people didn't get the opportunity to see the plan," he said. "So this is staff doing due diligence to ensure everyone gets heard and gets the proper information."
The open house will provide the opportunity to view proposed plans, ask staff questions and provide comments.
A previous open house on proposed additional bike routes was held at City Hall in September.
The proposed bicycle lanes are the continuation of the existing dedicated bike lane to Lakeshore Drive along Power Street and the existing lane from Wade Ave. W. to Marina Way along Ellis Street and a dedicated lane from Channel Parkway to Wiltse with a connection to Carmi.
The upcoming bike lane open house will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.15, in council chambers at City Hall.
