Peachland Fire
95% contained
After three days of aggressive response from the air and ground, the Trepanier Creek wildfire near Peachland is now 95% contained.
The uncontained section is in an inaccessible area that will be actioned further tomorrow. The fire behaviour has remained a low vigour surface fire with little open flame, allowing crews to continue making good progress.
On site today were 107 firefighters from the Wildfire Management Branch, along with crews and engines from the Peachland Fire Department and other emergency response agencies. They were supported from the air by four helicopters and heavy equipment on the ground. Personnel will remain on site overnight.
The Regional District of the Central Okanagan has rescinded the Evacuation Order that was previously in place. However, an Evacuation Alert does remain in effect.
Smoke from this fire will continue to be visible in coming days. We ask members of the public entering the area under Evacuation Alert to be cautious, as suppression efforts will be ongoing and emergency vehicles will be operating in the area.
The cause of this wildfire remains under investigation.
