Vernon’s Barrie Tops In MJT Event

Mackenzie Barrie of Vernon was the lone Okanagan golfer to swing to victory at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour stop at Predator Ridge Golf Resort this week.

The 18-year-old, about to begin her sophomore year with the University of Wyoming Cowgirls golf team, shot rounds of 72 and 73 on Monday and Tuesday respectively to win the girls’ competition on the 5,358-yard Predator layout.

Her 36-hole 145 total was four strokes better than Haley Hewer (79-70) of Penticton and six strokes lower than Kelowna’s Madison Kapchinsky (79-72), the latter playing in her final MJT tournament.
