OK Rockets Pare Down After Intense Camp

One of the largest and most intense evaluation camps produced a list of 40 players the Okanagan Rockets will invite back for another look early next month.

The defending B.C. Major Midget Hockey League champions have also committed to 15 players, although several will more than likely not return to the team’s main camp and 12-team ice-breaker tournament at the CNC Sept. 5-7.

“It was the most competitive (camps) we’ve had in a long, long time,” said general-manager David Michaud after a gruelling four-day event that included more than 100 young players on five teams playing 10 one-hour scrimmages. “Because of our large turnover from last year, there was a lot of optimism among players that there were plenty of opportunities to earn a spot. The guys worked extremely hard.”
