Competing in his first elite-level World Cup race, Peachland’s Evan Guthrie cut through the field from the 84th starting position to a 36th place finish at Mont Ste. Anne, Que. on Sunday.
“I’m in the best shape of my life, and I am really proud with how this race went,” said Guthrie, coming off a fifth place finish at the Canadian cross country mountain bike championships. “I couldn’t do much until after the second lap, once traffic was more spread out.”
The 23-year-old Mt. Boucherie Secondary School graduate said the race was one of passing and keeping focused on picking off fellow riders.
