Claire Young With Right Prescription

Two tried and tested Okanagan racers were among the top-four finishers at the recent Subaru Ironman Canada in Whistler.

Jeff Symonds of Penticton nailed down second place (eight hours 25 minutes 22 seconds) behind Marino Vanhoenacker of Belgium (8:16:10) and 2013 champion, Trevor Wurtele of Kelowna, took fourth place in 8:42:59.

While both were pleased with their results, neither could match the sheer delight of the diminutive Claire Young.

The 5-foot, 95-pound triathlete from Kelowna completed the 3.84 kilometre swim, 180.25 km cycle and 42.2 km run in 10 hours 39 minutes 51 seconds (10:39:51) to place 84th overall among the 1,909 athletes. She was third in the 35-39 division, 12th overall among the females, and sixth among non-pro women.
