Eight Medals For Zakala At Nationals

Already established as one of the top 16-year-old swimmers in the country, Josh Zakala raced to a fourth consecutive national open-water championship Winnipeg on Monday.

The Kelowna AquaJets member not only was the fastest swimmer in his age group, but recorded the best overall time (58 minutes 38 seconds) in the five-kilometre race that included 17-and 18-year-old swimmers in the St. Malo Park reservoir.

‘’Happy but tired,’’ said Zakala, after the race that closed out the Canadian Age Group Swimming Championships in which he claimed eight medals. “I maintained a consistent race, but the sighting was hard at times and I tended to go off course”.
