A’s Out To Defuse Cannons

It will be back to the basics for the Okanagan Athletics when they play host to the Vancouver Cannons in a best-of-three B.C. Premier (Midget) Baseball League playoff series this weekend.

A team that appears to have gotten the most from a smaller and not-so-deep roster to finish in fourth place (28-20) among 13 teams will likely require even more from their charges if they hope to win their second BCPBL title in three years.

The A’s might be considered slight favourites to get by the visiting fifth-place Cannons — at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (if necessary) on Sunday at Elks Stadium — but should the hosts dispose of the Vancouver team in this preliminary series, they’ll be the darkhorse in the league’s final-five tournament in Whalley Aug. 1-4.
