Mitchell Upsets Peliwo In Futures Final

On his World Tour ATP bio Ben Mitchell lists the Rocky movies among his favourites.

On Sunday, playing in front of a pro Filip Peliwo crowd at the Parkinson Recreation Centre courts, Mitchell — in Balboa style — overcame a 6-2 defeat in the second set of the ITF Kelowna Futures Tennis tournament to upset the No. 1 seed for the event championship.

The native of Gold Coast, Australia had won the first set of the title match 6-3, but looked to be on the ropes after the rain-delayed second. Mitchell, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, battled back however for a 6-4 win in the third and deciding set to record his second career win over the favoured Peliwo of Vancouver.
