Impaired driver rolls her Jeep
A 54-year-old Kamloops woman is facing charges of Impaired Driving after the red Jeep Cherokee she was driving crashed into a retaining wall and rolled onto its side at the intersection of Columbia St. and 13th Ave. just 11:20 PM Sunday night.
Witnesses reported seeing the Jeep heading east bound on Columbia St. swerving and driving in the west bound lane of travel prior to the collision. The vehicle went off road at 13th Ave, across the side walk, struck and straddled a retaining wall then flipped onto the left side trapping the driver.
Kamloops Fire Rescue were forced to cut the top off of the Jeep in order to extricate the driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. She was taken to Royal Inland Hospital by BC Ambulance Crews where she was examined and released.
The investigating officer had remained with the woman and upon her release from hospital, read her the breath demand and transported her back to the RCMP detachment. The driver subsequently provided two breath samples that registered more than twice the legal limit.
After the two breath samples were processed and the corresponding paper work was completed, the woman was released on a judicial Promise to Appear in court for March 11, 2013. She was also served a Notice of Driving Prohibition and a 24 hour suspension prior to her release.
Neither the driver or any pedestrians were injured.
