RCMP in the North Okanagan are once again reminding residents to stay vigilant as an increase in break-and-enters have been reported in Chase.

There have been 15 residential and six business break-ins over the past three months. Officers continue to investigate these crimes and have also stepped up patrols in Scotch Creek and other problem areas of the North Shuswap from Squilax to St. Ives.

Police will be focusing on these areas around the clock with any suspicious movement of pedestrians and vehicles being checked throughout the night.

The RCMP is also recommending all home and business owners do a security audit of their properties. This includes securing all outdoor equipment and examining doors and windows. They also suggest all seasonal property owners invest in deadbolts and reinforced doorjambs as well as bars or roll shutters on ground level windows.

If citizens wish to consider forming a Citizens on Patrol or a Neighbourhood Watch, they can contact the Chase RCMP.
