Two charged in 4 year old murder case
Almost four years after the murder of Tyler Myers in Salmon Arm, two people have been arrested.
Myers, who was 22 at the time, was found in the yard of the Bastion Elementary on November 21, 2008 where he died of a gunshot wound.
The suspects were arrested in Salmon Arm and Vernon.
Inspector Gary Shinkaruk, E Division Major Crime Unit says investigators from the RCMP Unsolved Homicide Unit have identified and arrested a man and woman believed to be responsible for Tyler Myers murder.
"As we approach the four year anniversary of Tyler’s death we are pleased to say that those responsible are now facing criminal charges.”
Police would not comment on the details of the investigation, because it is before the courts. They can confirm Myers knew the accused and that this was not a random attack.
Inspector Shinkaruk did state that when police notified Myres' family, who no longer resides in Salmon Arm, of the identity of the alleged killers they were surprise as they knew the individuals.
The now 20-year-old man and 21-year-old woman both from Salmon Arm have been charged with first degree murder. They cannot be named because of their age at the time of the offence.
“Each of our investigators believes that murder victims deserve to have their case solved, no matter how long the file takes. These charges illustrate their dedication and hopefully will help Tyler’s friends and family,” says Inspector Shinkaruk.
This investigation remains active and on-going and additional charges are possible. The two accused will be appearing in Salmon Arm Provincial Court today (Tuesday November 6, 2012).
