Enderby manhunt

Manhunt near Enderby July 18, 2012
Last evening, shortly before 6:00 p.m. the Vernon / North Okanagan Detachment at Enderby responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Kildonan Ave. in Enderby BC.
A 47-year-old Enderby resident went to another home in Enderby armed with a hunting rifle. The male fired a single shot into a vehicle parked at the residence and was confronted by a female at that house, a verbal exchange between the two parties ensued and a second shot was fired.
The female took refuge in her house and was not injured. The suspect immediately fled the scene in his pick-up truck. The RCMP initiated an immediate search of the community. The RCMP Air services Helicopter & Police Dog Services were called out to help with the search.
Road blocks were also set up in surrounding communities.
Within a short period of time RCMP received information from the community about the whereabouts of the suspect’s vehicle. RCMP also received information that he was willing to surrender himself to police and walk out onto the Enderby – Mable lake Rd.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident on the Enderby – Mable Lake Rd. near Ashton Creek.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing with the assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit and Police Dog Services.
A 47-year-old Enderby male will be appearing in Salmon Arm Provincial Court later today charged with attempted murder and various firearms related charges.
The entire event unfolded in approximately 1.5 hours. RCMP credit the community for helping to successfully resolve this incident.
RCMP say it serves as an excellent example of our integrated detachments ability to quickly mobilize a large number of police resources to adequately deal with serious incidents such as this.
