Update: Man swept down stream

Chase RCMP and the Salmon Arm Search and Rescue team have completed their ground and air searches of the Seymour River area, with no sign of missing hiker Andrew Wilson.

According to Cpl. Dan Moskaluk police have concluded that it is unlikely Wilson survived. 

"He is presumed to have drowned after being swept away in the strong river current on Monday."

During the two day search RCMP and private SAR helicopters flew the length of the river and forest area from where the Seymour River drains into Shuswap Lake, back to Seymour Falls with no sign of Wilson seen from the air.  RCMP Dive Team members were unable to enter the water to look for Wilson, due to fast water conditions and deemed it was too dangerous to enter at any point along the search area.
 

A man from Salmon Arm was accidentally swept away while swimming in the Seymour River, Monday afternoon.

Chase RCMP and Search and Rescue are currently conducting an air and ground search of the Seymour river and Seymour Falls area.

Police say two men both in their 20s traveled to Seymour Arm to hike Seymour Falls, they were due back in Salmon Arm at 3 p.m.

According to Cpl. Dan Moskaluk at some point in the afternoon Andrew Wilson, 24, jumped into the Seymour River to cool off and was swept down river.

"The man's friend made his way to the nearest logging road and flagged down a grader operator, who in turn contacted a local resident."

SAR teams were in the area until dark, search efforts resumed Tuesday morning at 6:30, in what is described as a very rugged and remote area with little to no road access.

Wilson was last seen wearing black swimming trunks and is described as a Caucasian male, brown hair, 185cm tall, 82 kg.
