Let them eat cake!

Here comes the most delicious part of your décor and vision of your wedding - the cake! The cake will be one of the main centerpieces of your wedding and a great canvas to incorporate all of your ideas and a tasty one at that!

Time to book!

One of the biggest questions I get asked is how far in advance should I book my cake? Well, you should leave a minimum of 4-6 months in advance for booking your cake, however I would suggest starting once you have a date and venue checked off your list. You always want to ensure you get the artist you are looking for and the one that fits your “ideal” look.

Tastings!

I think most of us can agree that the tasting is one of the best and most fun parts of the planning process. Usually before meeting with your cake creator you should give them your favorite flavors or ones you would like to have incorporated.  They are the pros and will usually have some fantastic suggestions to add some flare to the flavor. Some bakers offer three to four different flavors at the tastings, however if you know what you are looking for they might just ensure that they have that flavor nailed down for you. It’s best to ask as every baker is different and have different complimentary tasting offerings.

Traditional, cupcakes, mini cakes - oh my!

There are a few options you can do now to have something delicious, gorgeous and pretty much exactly what you want. Some choose cakes because you have a bigger canvas to display your colours, ideas and some extra flare. Cupcakes are usually chosen because they are easier for guests to grab and add a playful element. Cupcakes as well as mini cakes are great to serve as a cake option instead of traditional, but can also be used as your favors.  Maybe have a table next to it with small boxes and forks for guests to enjoy the next day at home, where they can reminisce about your wonderful wedding.

The budget!

Yes, we have your budget in mind, however don’t choose your baker simply because they are less expensive than the other. Choose your cake creator because you trust their judgment and love their style and how it meshes with your own. Their prices vary on size, décor and detail, so again each one is different so prices will vary with each baker and cake. If you are confident that they will make you something amazing, you will be excited and have so much less stress leading up to your big day. All bakers should be able to work with your budget and not define it.

At the end of the day, the cake will not only provide guests with an amazing vision of your day but will be the final enjoyment they will have after their amazing meal you have provided them with. It’s important to remember that there are only a few certified bakers in Kelowna and it’s definitely worth it to do some research and ensure you have a fantastic cake creator as well as a safe one.
