Tax Dollars Wasted at UBCM
Sep 23, 2013 / 7:10 am
As tax payers we are often reminded that politicians earn no more than their counterparts in private industry.
After seeing the recent article on Castanet regarding the expenses of those attending the recent UBCM I saw very little that would be justified in private industry. There would be no fly or drive option, you rent a van that holds five or more and drive together.
There is no mileage paid, no cab fair from the airport and back and certainly no fancy rooms at the Pan Pacific Hotel. There are far more reasonable accommodations. Some corporations insist that travelers double up in rooms to save expenses.
What was the per day expenses allowed for each traveler? Was booze allowed to be expensed? Breakfast, lunch and dinner at one of the most costly hotels in Vancouver is not going to amount to as little as fifty dollars per day. Were spouses allowed to accompany travelers?
Do you think anyone attending that conference was concerned about the expense? Absolutely not!
It's time we woke up. These people work for us and do not seem to give a damn about how many of our hard earned tax dollars they lay down to enjoy the high life. Private industry would require over expenditures to be paid back.
Whether a Senator or Councillor, all politicians seem to have a problem understanding where the money comes from.
