Need for safe pedestrian-light controlled crossing at Eckhardt and Comox Street.
I commute to Penticton from Summerland and back again almost every day, and the pedestrian crossing at this intersection is one of the most dangerous I have ever seen. I know this is a high speed area as there are often RCMP doing speed patrols nearby. People are in danger as they try to cross four lanes of traffic with only two small pedestrian signs and a faded zebra stripe on the ground.
Frequently I have seen one car stop and another car in the next lane blow right through almost hitting the pedestrian – not once, but often twice with the two directions of traffic coming at them. People coming southbound from the highway are doing speeds as though they are still on the highway.
It is dangerous – it needs a pedestrian controlled light with overhanging flashers. I have wanted to write this letter for years. Please do something here before something terrible happens.
