"Conservation" officer? Seriously, it's time to rename this occupation - see definition of the word below in case there's any question. In all fairness I expect they didn't enter this line of work for the sheer joy and frequent requirement to kill other living beings and I don't envy their version of a hard day at the office.
The public's frustration just ends up being directed at the government employee rather than the inhumane bureaucracy obviously working with minimal funding that's at the core of these "kill it" solutions they seem to be so fond of. It's hard to imagine in this wonderful, massive province that time and again there is never anywhere far enough away, at least once in awhile, to relocate "problem" animals, or other reasonable methods that can't be used far more often to protect and conserve them.
In the case of the little buck, if he was raised by humans and seemed to enjoy their company, and if there was such an immense concern about him coming into rut, why not geld him and place him with a petting zoo or an adoptive hobby farm, etc? Nah, that might cost something and take some effort, so its a bullet in the head for you instead little buddy.
