Letters to the editor

My name is Rachel Watkins and my family and I were living in the Legacy apartment building in Rutland. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those that helped us through this difficult time.
The Red Cross is first and foremost as, without them, we would have had no place to stay. The good people at the Red Cross worked very hard to find a place that would house a family of three for an extended length of time – even working through lunch – and we thank them. If I am fortunate enough to win the lottery, that is the first donation I’ll make.
I would also like to thank the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team. CDART tirelessly searched for our cat, giving us daily updates of any progress. They also lent us the use of a carrier and water dish, which was greatly appreciated, and supplied us with the name of a vet willing to give our cat free medical attention. The fire may have destroyed most of our things, but CDART made our family whole again.
Last, but not least, I would like to thank Dr. Oz at the Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Oz was the only Vet to offer free check-ups to any animals from the legacy complex – and he also kenneled Luna until we were able to move into our new place.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
