I couldn’t agree more with TEENS LIVES BEING RUINED. I don’t understand the silence from city hall either and think it’s time we have a new mayor and police chief who are not afraid or intimidated to take a stand, make some headlines and REALLY do something with the downtown problem instead of making a sugar-coated show of it every long weekend for the tourists.
There are more than enough cities who have tackled problems like ours we could use as guidelines. New York City is a great example of how the mayor and police chief dealt with cleaning up the city. I heard a terrific hour long interview on CBC about their successes and mistakes. I know people new to Kelowna who can see what is going on and are moving to the coast when residents of this city who live ‘outside’ the downtown area haven’t a clue. And they have kids who are turning into teens who are looking to have fun downtown.
We need to bring back programs and facilities for drug addicts immediately who want help, ship the rest out or throw them in jail and maybe close down a couple of the problem club. And get rid of organized crime. Then scrub the sidewalks, rebuild and show off this city.
