Unsafe Human Crisis

In response to RJK's comments, bears and dog poop are the least of your worries on the Greenway. I too have felt safe on the Greenway, until this
year. With the influx of transients from the downtown core, and Springfield Road being an excellent and quick route even from as far away as downtown, it is becoming a sleeping place for the homeless.

You may not see them on the trail but don't venture off the beaten path. I have seen numerous transients making their way into the areas around the trail to set up camp for the night. You don't see them in Springfield Park because they cut across the field before the park, close to where the new road is being constructed on Benvoulin Road.

What about the passed out drunk on the bench??? I don't know how many times
I've seen that. Do you want to be walking on the trail when he wakes up???

Some people do not pick up after their dogs but for the most part the Greenway is clean. However, horse-back riders should start cleaning up their
mess. As for bears, in all the time I've been using the Greenway, I've seen
one bear in Sutherland Park and that was 2003 when they were forced to leave
the mountains because of the fire.

I use the entire length of the Greenway at least four times a week and when I am on it by myself, I am riding a bike, not walking. The transient
population has taken over everything else - they don't need to be on the
Greenway too. If the RDCO can patrol the unleashed dog crisis, I think
they should also patrol the unsafe human crisis.

W.D.
