All Fair In Love And War

I believe the Courier in its editorials and the Liberal letter writers to the editor do protest too much re Sindi Hawkins and her use of personal health issues. ALL is fair in war and politics??

As the media has already demonstrated many of them are fed up with the constant overuse of photo ops by the B.C. Liberals and Sindi Hawkins in particular. How many time was the bridge construction announced anyway? As we are all aware, we also had a constant blow by blow account of Ms. Hawkins personal health issues through letters to the editor in both the Courier and the Capital News. Was this necessary? Contrast this with the NDP's former national leader David Lewis who had a similar health problem which most people did not even know about.

Indeed the media has simply fallen in to the trap of being constantly used by the Liberal party and it would be interesting to count the number of times that Ms. Hawkins picture has appeared in local papers in the last year. The Courier, however stooped to a new low (or is it an old low) in quoting an unnamed source re Nikki Hokazono's personal characteristics. I believe most readers would want that source to be personally named, in all fairness. Wouldn't be a Liberal supporter or volunteer would it?

The B.C. Liberals, in fact have made life difficult for a lot of young teachers by stripping teacher contracts which took decades to bargain. Most of these well trained teachers now wait years for jobs! And they also ruined many well established small businesses when they cut supplemental benefits. A friend from Kelowna gave up on a business that he had built over 20 years! Is this what small business support is all about?

I, as a retiree, have had to pay substantial increases for benefits. And many user fees which have countered any taxation break. Again, I thought that all of this had been fairly bargained. But it seems that fairness does not matter with this government.

Indeed, I did not see Ms. Hawkins anywhere around during the Coquihalla privatization debate. She has little to say about desperate conditions at KGH. And should be the one held accountable for NOT meeting the long term care bed goal. It is time we had a more outspoken MLA who does not seem like a "cheerleader" for her party and who constantly parrots the party line even if it is not working. e.g. Ministry of Human Resources and child care.

I guess it is obvious who I am likely to support but I do point out that I am not a volunteer for any political party and hold no party membership.
