Letter: Street Sweeping

To the editor:

I am writing this letter as a Joe Rich resident who was driving into Kelowna during the Ski to Sea race on Sunday.

As I was driving down Highway 33 I repeatedly encountered cyclists who were forced to ride near the center of the traffic lane because the bike lanes had not been swept and there was gravel, large rocks, branches, and pieces of glass in their way. This caused a dangerous situation for both the cyclists, who had to drive in the way of traffic (or in the messy bike lanes), as well as for drivers going both directions, as we had to pass the cyclists by entering the wrong traffic lane.

I do not know who is responsible for cleaning up the road and the bike lanes, but I feel that it definitely should have been done before this race, for the safety of all involved.
