Letters to the editor

I'll tell you what's in the sky

To the editor:

Re: What’s in the sky

It’s sad to see that this conspiracy theory still has legs after so many years. There is even a Facebook page!

A “Chemtrail” is nonsense. It is a silly word created by fanatic conspiracy buffs.

The vapour trail that you see is called a contrail. It is the water vapour that comes from condensing air inside a jet engine.

When this moisture exhausts at high altitudes it freezes into ice crystals that you can see from the ground.

You will see this simply explained reaction on days when the moisture level in the atmosphere is high and the temperature is just right at the altitude that the plane is flying.

You will also see them disappear and sometimes even reappear as the plane changes altitude or flies into an area with a different temperature or moisture level.

Any weather station can predict the days that you will see contrails.

You will also notice, most of the time, that these trails are usually seen along established airways. Next time you look, see how many point to Vancouver.

Ask yourself this.

Why on earth would someone who wanted to poison us not do it with a clear gas or on days/nights when we can’t see it?

Surely the bad guys have the technology to create havoc on cloudy days.
