To the editor:
There is a public hearing at the council chambers of West Kelowna on October 23 at 6 p.m.
The intent is to revise the policy regarding secondary suites in single family subdivisions.
Secondary suites can be a great help to anyone wanting a bit of help making mortgage payments and I have no objection to that.
They also provide affordable housing for a lot of people.
What is being proposed is the removal of the owner occupancy condition.
This now moves this into a for profit operation with an absentee landlord. If any of you homeowners have had to deal with rental accommodations where the landlord lives elsewhere, you can appreciate what can, and often does happen.
If you want to protect your investment and have some say in what happens at city hall, I strongly urge you to attend this hearing and voice your opinion.
This may be your last chance,as this proposal has already passed first and second reading.
