Thanks for Taking Back the Night |

To the editor:
I am absolutely thrilled by the community support and sisterhood that the Elizabeth Fry Society received last week for the annual Take Back the Night march.
It was exciting to co-host this year’s event with the Okanagan Roller Derby Association.
120 women, men, and children rallied and marched to show their support for survivors of sexual violence in the Central Okanagan.
I would like to extend special thanks to all of our volunteers, activists, the Okanagan Roller Derby, the local media, Lee’s Music, Tamara Logan, Good Earth Cafe, Streaming Café, Save on Foods, and the United Way.
Rape and abuse of women and children is a harsh and extremely destructive reality in this community, and in communities the world over.
When we rally, and talk openly about it we are showing survivors that Kelowna is a safe place to come forward about abuse, seek support, and get free from the violence.
That is a very powerful message!
To everyone who supported the event, and helped us make lots of noise downtown Kelowna last week – Thank you!
