Dogs should be saved, not destroyed

To the editor:

The problem is the RDCO is giving many dog owners very little choice. Either they can surrender their dog to be put down, or they can get a very expensive lawyer.

So the dog is confiscated, someone decides they are aggressive, and they are put down.

The rate of supposedly "aggressive dog" incidents seems extremely high in this district.

That means an awful lot of dogs are being put down unnecessarily.

In Calgary, they are more likely to assess a dog, attempt to retrain or find the dog and new home, and therefore, someone can at least rescue them.

And yes, I have gotten several of my pets from SPCA or other rescue organizations.
