Re: Turning Concern
To understand the reason the traffic light turns red and then immediately green again, you must consider traffic coming from the other direction.
When a vehicle travelling eastbound on Springfield attempts to turn left onto Leckie, it will trigger the turning light.
This stops traffic travelling westbound on Springfield.
But, if anyone is in the turning lane on westbound Springfield (turning into Mission Creek Park), they will have to vacate the intersection because they are given a red light, meaning eastbound traffic must also stop for a moment to avoid a conflict.
As for the turning light itself, I agree that it`s current operation is flawed.
The way this light currently operates can be a huge inconvenience, especially late at night, given the intersection has very clear sight lines for turning traffic.
It could simply operate as an advance green, with left turns yielding to oncoming traffic after the turning arrow has gone out, much like at Dilworth and Highway 97.
