Letters to the editor

Pitbulls can be too aggresive

To the editor:

You have received letters recently defending Pitbulls, suggesting that they are no more aggressive than any other breed.  Pit Bulls are, and have been, bred to be attack dogs, both as individuals and in packs.

This breed of animals are known to turn on their owners for no known reason and kill young children as individual dogs, or as a pack (two or more dogs).

They have been outlawed in Canadian Jurisdictions.

I walk the same route every night to get exercise, I am encountered by a yet to be mature Pit Bull who jumps at the fence and really wants to get at me.

The home owners, when outside, seem oblivious as to the dogs behaviour.

My message to them is, do some research, you may be saving a loved ones' life.

Another example, which there are many, is one owner in Summerland who tied up an aggressive Pit Bull next to the door of a Video Store.

When I arrived to rent a movie there was several people outside waiting for the owner to take away the dog so they could enter the place.

Bottom line is, I have the right to walk the streets of my community without being harassed.
