Smouldering over careless fires

RE: Small grass fire hits Westbank

You know, stories like this make me incredibly angry because of how it is speculated that the fire started. Do people not realize how dry it is out there? I guess a campfire ban wasn't a large enough clue to some people.

I'm not a smoker, and I know there are responsible smokers out there who don't throw their cigarette butts out the window of their car, but I can tell you I see it all the time while driving and it makes me angry.

These fires are so dangerous and can cause major damage to people and their homes. Someone who is foolish enough to throw their cigarette butt out the window should be hugely fined.

Besides the fact that you are littering, which alone you should be fined the $500 for, you are quite literally putting other people's lives at risk every time you toss that butt our your window, which should very nearly land you with some real jail time.

There should be a huge fine if someone is caught tossing their cigarette out their window and strictly enforced, something in the neighbourhood of $5,000 or maybe even $10,000.

It is not acceptable behaviour and down right irresponsible.

Doing so shows how much you respect the environment and the people around you, and clearly you don't have much for either.
