Detours frustrate driver

As a Kelowna resident for the past 20 years I understand that the Kelowna Apple Triathlon is a staple to our community.

I also have experienced the frustration of commuting during this event. On Sunday, I was unfortunate enough to have forgotten that the triathlon was happening and my 10 minute drive turned into a 45 minute ordeal.

This was extremely frustrating as their was no signage indicating the road closures on Gordon, a major thoroughfare in our city.

I did see signage posted on Hwy 97 and Spall once I eventually got there after being turned and detoured a number of times before being told how to get to where I was going through all of the road closures.

As Kelowna City Council is responsible for approving these types of events and road closures, I would think that they would consider the number of people and volume of traffic being affected.

It seems that these are just some of the issues that they are willing to overlook.

I don't understand why this event cannot happen in City Park and the attached walking and biking lanes where athletes would have access to the lake, a track, and running and biking trails that are kilometres long without affecting the rest of the residents who live in this city.

It might be something worth considering now that Kelowna is no longer a farming community with a population of less than 50,000.
