To our teachers at OUC:
I have a child that attends Okanagan University College, the North Campus. He works and studies hard.
He was told to check online on the OUC website to see if classes are canceled for that day, and he always checks the site, ahead of time - daily.
Many times now, he has checked online to see that classes are held as normal only to get to school to see a sign on the door that says "class is canceled".
This is all because a professor didn't call in or post online. What is the purpose then I ask of this system? Where is the consideration?
Last week it happened once again. He arrived at school for 8:30 am classes and there was a note once again saying "classes are canceled". He did not have another class until the afternoon and it was too far to go all the way home again and back for the afternoon class.
Along with almost 40 other students, they all arrived to find out the same news.
If you phone the college to complain, they simply "send a reminder to the professor" which one wonders if it ever gets there anyway or does any good.
I encourage other parents and students to speak up about this.
