Shopping Carts Will Be Banned

First of all, I just want to say to all the people that don't think private citizens or activist groups should provide shopping buggies to the homeless Get a life - What do you care anyway. Is it because you don't want to see homeless people packing around all that they own in a small compartment. Does it bother you? Obviously not enough to get off your keister and offer a hand of support.

I cannot believe the apathy No... ignorance, toward this socio-economic group in our community. This attitude is totally what rationalizes our present Government's ability to enact one after another piece of mean spirited legislation through Parliament.

Hey if you want to go and buy a shopping cart to provide to a homeless person, I say power to you. But I wonder how long it will be before our Municipal Government will enact a bylaw to prevent the transport of anything but groceries in a shopping buggy. Ludicrous? Just wait.

It has been said that a society can be judged by how it treats its poor. Apparently in Kelowna we fail miserably! This failure occurs in a community that contains one of the highest per capita density of churches, synagogues and temples in the entire country. What an oxymoron!

I lastly want to comment on the magnitude of damage than the wheels of shopping buggies create in our most hallowed treasure, City Park. I would offer that the damage is just nominally more than that caused by a lawn-mower, or a bicycle. You want to talk about damage in City Park. Wait till the new bridge construction commences.

W.J.M.
