Letters to the editor

Advisories shouldn't be needed

To the editor:

According to the BC Ministry of Forests, the majority of fires are caused by humans.

The necessity that an advisory not to leave a smouldering fire at a camp site must be issued is a classic example of human stupidity.

Some people actually do that? The advisory should never have been necessary.

So perhaps the Ministry go one step further.

When the fire hazard is high, let alone extreme, issue a total ban on camp fires, with a very high fine if that law is broken.

I have been camping on and off in BC for almost 20 years.

I cannot get over the fact that people need fires when the air temperatures in the parks are approaching 40 degrees Celsius!

The only legitimate use of a camp fire is for warmth and cooking.

Small stoves are the sensible answer.  They are designed so as not to use wood, to make cooking easier and to help prevent forest fires.
