Letters to the editor
Dog jail should be more humane |
|
|
To the editor:
There should be some changes made to court cases whereby animals are held prisoner in tiny cells for months or years, waiting for their cases to go before a judge.
One being that their cases should be heard sooner.
Animals are animals, they don't know that what they've done may or may not be wrong by human standards.
Some other things should also be done differently! Larger "cells" for one thing, more outside time, more socialization if deemed safe by animal behaviourists.
I agree with the statement that Shadow will, if allowed to live, be returned to his family in a far worse state than he left, thanks to the systems he is damaged by.
Spend some time in the cells at dog control and you will want to escape the constant noise and stench, and you try sleeping on cement. Staff there are great, but they have to follow the rules themselves.
I see a poor dog who is well behaved and is being held hostage---and I really have to ask myself if the dog was really that horrible why, oh why, oh why, did it take 30 some days before anything was done about it? Something's really wrong there!
