Stoping illegal dumping

To the editor:

Re: Illegal dumping in East Kelowna.

Illegal dumping in the outskirt areas of Kelowna seems to have a lot of people upset lately, and rightfully so.

For the volunteers who have put admirable effort into cleaning up these dump-sites, and who are concerned about the ongoing problem [as most of us are], try this:

Go to any outdoor store and invest in what is called a "Tree-cam."

The device is a small (often camouflaged) motion-activated camera that gets placed in an inconspicuous location [usually in a tree].

The device then either photographs or video-records whatever activates its motion sensor, both during the day, and during the night.  Hunters and outdoorsmen use Tree-cams all the time to record and photograph wildlife.

Upon locating one of the popular dump-sites, simply install a Tree-cam in the area, give the environmental polluters time to commit their crimes, upload the photos and/or videos of them to a local public web-site, and allow the public to see who is dumping in our back yards.
