Letters to the editor

In praise of Gloria Taylor

To the editor:

Gloria Taylor you are a hero.

Thank you for the effort you have put in to establish the “death with dignity” decision.

I have not talked to one elderly person (myself included) who would choose to linger in such a debilitating, humiliating and painful state where others have to care for your every need.

It is my life and should be my decision as to when I feel my number is called up yonder.

The thought of my children having to endure additional months and maybe years of my deterioration is worse than death itself.

If you love me, let me go.

Gloria, you have brought peace of mind to all of us old folks who can now stop worrying about how the end will play out, which is our greatest fear.

Well, that’s providing Ottawa does the right thing.

Bless you.

MISS ME BUT LET ME GO

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me.
I hope that you will realize my pain at last is free.
Miss me a little.... But not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me ....... but let me go.
For this is the journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of a master plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Just go to some friends you know,
Try burying your sorrows
In some good deeds.
Miss me ...... but let me go.
