Not amused with transit driver

I understand being a transit city bus driver might not be the easiest job, with all of the whacky downtown characters they are often forced to put up with amongst other difficult passengers.

However, I was not amused with the way that I was treated on a bus the other day. I have filed a complaint with one of their managers, but I still feel like it is not enough.

I have witnessed many times a bus driver being very unreasonable or just completely rude to passengers, but I usually went on with my day each time figuring there was nothing I could do to help the situation anyway. I am a mother of a five-month-old boy and I was traveling from Downtown Kelowna Queensway station with my fiance and our son in his stroller.

This is the first time I've taken the bus since I was pregnant and we were in between vehicles.

We were on our way to West Kelowna when the incident occurred. The whole bus was loud with high school students. We had been sitting right in behind the driver the entire time. When we got up to leave we made it crystal clear that we were leaving, saying goodbye to friends who were also on the bus and headed towards the door. As soon as my fiance got to the door - who was ahead of me and my son, the bus driver closed the doors in his face and immediately sped away back onto the highway.

The brakes on my stroller were obviously no longer on, since I had been heading towards the exit and my stroller with my son inside went jerking forward and sideways.

I was luckily able to slam on the brakes in time to prevent him from flying across the bus, possibly injuring himself or injuring somebody else with the stroller.

My finance flipped out and was very verbal, as he was upset his son't life was just placed in danger.

I asked him to calm down, then I looked over at the bus driver and asked "Why did you just do that? It was clear that I was heading to the exit, we were the ones who had pulled the cord. My brakes weren't on my stroller obviously. You could of hurt or killed my son or somebody. Are you not paying attention to your passengers?"

The bus driver just ignored me. I found that incredibly rude and his actions were completely careless.

I believe this is a serious matter when someone providing me a public service, yes but is behind the wheel of a motor vehicle transporting a child, should be far more careful and aware of his surroundings than that. It makes me scared to bring my child on the bus again.
