SUVs provide a false sense of security
To the editor: Re: Three vehicle crash closes Glenmore It never ceases to amaze me how many of the vehicles that slide off highways in the winter are SUVs and other 4x4s. Also, it never ceases to amaze me how many drivers feel the SUV/4x4 is a safe vehicle in winter conditions, when the opposite is true. The only thing an SUV or a 4x4 is good for in winter is getting out of trouble. I think, the SUV/4x4 is the vehicle most likely to involuntarily leave the highway in winter. This is partly because of the false sense of security the vehicles provides the driver. These vehicles are simply the worst to drive in winter. Jim Skelton
