As the end of January Air Canada deleted its 75% subsidy for passengers that find themselves needing to make a trip to attend a family member's funeral.
The airline had the audacity to state that deleting this service in fact benefits their customers, as the absence of providing this subsidy policy is easier for them to deal with. Air Canada goes further to state that fares booked on-line are often cheaper than the bereavement fares anyway.
Boy there's some spin I guess if you set your daily demand price high enough, a $400 return flight to Calgary would seem like a bargain .... . It's no wonder smaller regional airlines have found a niche in this market. I wonder how long it will be before Air Canada will be looking to restructure again, and sincerely hope that our Government will no longer support another bail-out to ensure Air Canada's future viability.
