Re: Time to test the elderly
This is a very controversial topic and everyone is going to have a different opinion, but I'm going to have to side with Brittany regarding aged drivers having limitations and displaying a decal on their respective vehicles.
Although displaying an "O" will likely not sit well, I think an "S" would be a little more politically correct.
There are less seniors that still drive and drive less frequently than the 'N' drivers but they still manage to make the news just as often as their younger counterparts.
Don't get me wrong, the "N" system in my mind is fine as is. New drivers have to jump through hoops because there is a higher number of them that drive like maniacs than other age demographics. If you can drive civilized/responsible for two years then you can earn the class five.
Seems fine to me, but fair? Absolutly not. Seniors try to drive responsible/safe for the most part, but between deteriorated motor skills, possible health issues, poor knowledge of rules of the road etc. they are just as much of a threat.
I'm not just going to single them out, anyone that has had numerous accidents and an overall poor driving record should display some sort of high risk decal until their driving record improves. No matter the age demographic there are some awful drivers out there, why just single out one group.
