Time to test the elderly

I don't understand why, when you become a new driver, you have to jump through a series of hoops to get granted the privilege to drive but the elderly don't have to go through any new testing.

If new drivers have to wear an "N" old drivers should have to wear an "O". Just a simple way to warn other drivers that you should keep your distance.
Unless you get busted with drugs or alcohol in your system and continue to pay your dues that license is yours forever.

As you get older your body starts to deteriorate, your motor skills become compromised and your reaction time declines.

Is it not irresponsible for the BC government to not mandate any further testing on the elderly to ensure public safety?

I have seen countless amounts of near misses happen with elderly drivers not paying attention, not shoulder checking, accidentally hitting the gas instead of the brake, not scanning the intersection for a clear path to travel in, not signalling so on so forth.

In the last couple weeks I have been reading about the traffic accidents in the area and titles like "distracted driver strikes pedestrians", "Crash and Flip", or "driver shaken after crashing into the mall" believe it or not its the elderly drivers not us "N" drivers.

I strongly believe that once you hit a certain age the government should step in for our safety.
