GVRD Makes Difference

In response to B.H. I live in the lower mainland and continually read Castanet, because I have family up in the Interior. To help you better realize the costs of gas here I will help.

Vancouver to Langley is part of the GVRD and have to pay all the wonderful taxes to keep up parks etc.

Aldergrove to Hope are not part of the GVRD and at times have lower gas prices because of the less tax burden.

At this time we are paying 84.0 per litre then with the 3.5 discount that comes to a total of 80.5 cents per litre. There are some locations throughout the GVRD district that has lower prices by a couple of cents, but by the time I drive around and find the best deal I have eaten it up with the hunt.

The lowest gas prices are found just off of Hwy. 1 if you are coming into Vancouver from Chilliwack. This location is one exit before the Sumas-Abbotsford exit. You at times pay as low as 67.0 per litre. This fluctuates with the gas prices in the GVRD district.

To sum this all up, the people living within the area of the GVRD are not getting the breaks that you think. It is the ones that live beyond the GVRD that are.

The GVRD tax pays for things like the up keep on Stanley Park, and other numerous parks (green belts) in the heavily populated areas. I am not stating that it is alright that the Kelowna gas stations keep up the high gas prices, but, you and many other people must go directly to your elected representatives to battle this out. You will only be heard if you contact them. Just a little advice, take it as you will.

By the way Happy New Year's and Best wishes to all....

L.C.B.
