No respect for job hunter

I am writing this letter in disgust. I am disgusted by the lack of professionalism, ethics, moral fibre, integrity and respect shown by local employers to those seeking employment.

I have found myself in the unfortunate circumstance of being unemployed in these trying times and it’s shown me a very disgraceful side to today’s employers in general. Of course there are those that break the standards being set by the vast majority, but on the whole today’s employers are enough to make this grown man nauseous.

I’ve worked in this city for the past 15+ years building a skill set that is usable in the local manufacturing and construction industries. I’ve been seeking full time employment in my field for several months now with very few solid bites. The occasional nibble won’t feed the hungry.

On three occasions in the past few months I have been granted an interview that seemed to strike pay dirt. In all three cases, the interview went well and the vibe and smiles were indicative of a good first impression being set.

By the end of the session, I was told I’d be getting a call. A handshake and a smile and out the door I go to wait for my call. I left walking on air and elated that my nightmare of losing my home was finally coming to an end. No call came.

There is absolutely no excuse for an employer to do this to someone when so many are so desperate to find work before losing all they have worked so hard to gain in this city.

There is no excuse to set a person up for this kind of heartbreak. In all three cases I was assured of the position and in all three cases I have found myself unable to make further contact.

I have asked via emails and phone messages for some level of feedback so that if the issue is something I can fix, I’ll have the heads up to do so. I’ve visited in person and cannot get past reception. Phone messages are not returned and emails are ignored. Zero respect returned.

What the heck is wrong with you employers these days? As a potential employee I have a certain unspoken etiquette I have to adhere to in order to remain attractive to an employer. It’s a sad state of affairs when the tables are turned and the employer not only has no etiquette to adhere to, but also no professionalism, moral fibre, integrity or respect to give either.

It’s taking time and I am running out of options to keep my life intact, but I do know in the end, I’ll still have my integrity and moral fibre intact.

I won’t lose my ability to show respect for others. I can only wish more employers were as worthy of having me as I am of working for them.
