Narrow Minded People

I cannot believe the narrow minded people that don't even know the Lewis family, yet have taken the time to ostracize them over the recent loss they encountered. I know this family to be fine and decent citizens. Some question where the mother was that night --is it anybody's business? These girls are not only old enough to babysit, they are certainly old enough to stay home alone for a couple hours. I somehow get the feeling that if their mother were still married to the girl's father and they were out together, nobody would have said anything. This woman deserves to have a social life the same as anyone else, being a single mom of 3 teens I would say she deserves a break even more.

Is is somehow the woman's fault when the father simply walks out on his family, or the relationship falls apart to the point it is healthier for the children to not live with so much conflict? Of course it is not, until a child does something wrong. Then others step in to judge as if they are so perfect themselves. Parents - single or not --simply cannot watch their children 24 hours a day. Sure, the kids should not have been smoking. All kids of that age have an immense amount of peer pressure and even those from the finest and wealthiest families all make mistakes at times. These girls are paying dearly. The guilt, shame and embarrassment they must feel will take them a lifetime to get over.

To the jerk that commented any money they get should be used for counselling, not "an opportunity to go shopping" That was the coldest thing I have ever heard. The family has suffered a terrible loss and the replacement of clothing, furniture and food are the necessities of life. I certainly don't think the girls mother will be looking at it as a pleasure trip. Sure, after what they have been through and what these girls must feel --counselling is good idea but to suggest they go without everything else is obnoxious.

I suggest people get a life and stop judging those they do not know. Please help this family if you are able and so inclined. They deserve it.

L.M.
