RE:Anti-HST petition approved by Elections BC
More than just the Anti-HST petition was validated, British Columbians were validated, British Columbians mattered.
With Elections BC upholding the Anti-HST petition containing over 700,000 signatures, history was made and the BC Liberals were finally made to recognize they’re in Victoria to serve us and not big business.
This is truly historic for our province’s democracy no other time has any initiative reached this point, in just 90 days more than 15% of every registered voter in all of our provinces’ ridings signed the petition, with some ridings having over 40%.
But what makes this petition so important, is that businesses and banks weren’t signing the cheques, businesses and banks weren’t knocking on doors, businesses and banks weren’t putting pen to paper. This petition is so important because it was the product of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people like you and me who have had enough with the arrogance in Victoria and want a government that works for us, not against us.
I was a canvasser in Kelowna - Lake Country, and I met a lot of people who were against the HST. I talked with them, I heard the outrage over our elected representatives forcing a tax on us without so much as a consultation. So many people signed our riding’s petition sheets to make a stand against the arrogant and unrepresentative BC Liberal government.
The BC Liberals may have won the last provincial election, but today is vindication, today me and you win.
And tomorrow we make the BC Liberals lose.
