We could learn from Paris

RE:Responsible dog owners allowed

What a lovely letter from Carla Irving. As a dog owner and lover, I appreciate her letter about the public park in Lavington. What a treat it must have been to see everyone having a great time.

On my last trip to Europe, I travelled through several countries and never saw a sign restricting dogs or people with dogs from any public areas. In France, it was commonplace to see people with dogs enjoying their meals in restaurants - often enough with a small dog on the chair beside the owner. I saw many owners picking up after their dogs but there were those who didn't and, guess what, the street sweepers never hesitated to pick up doggy-doo. In Paris, they used a vacuum cleaner mounted on a gator-like vehicle.

We have a lot to learn from other countries instead of just banning everything that doesn't appeal to some special interest group or individual.

I think I'll go to Lavington for a good experience.
