I had the opportunity to attend an event in Lavington, near Vernon.
Lavington's large multi-use park is just beautiful with lots of shady trees and large grassy areas.
The weekend was warm and sunny and the park was full.
Kids were splashing in the pool, birthday parties were happening, a young couple were having wedding photos taken and lots of people just there, enjoying the park.
And, much to my surprise, there were dogs!
Yes, dogs!
At first I couldn't believe it, then I checked out the front gate.
A simple sign read, 'please be advised that dogs and their responsible owners are allowed in Lavington park.'
No list of rules, no warnings, no health advisories, no negative statements.
No one got bit, no one died from dog germs, and no one was hiding or sneaking around trying to avoid the bylaw Officer.
Imagine, kids playing with puppies, teens throwing Frisbees, seniors sitting on a bench with a dog in their lap and a smile on their face!
All seemed well.
I often wonder why the park in my neighbourhood is so empty?
