Crime Doesn't Pay

I have too been a parent who has had her sons bike stolen, but instead they came onto the school ground and cut his lock with bolt cutters, I know this because it was the last day of school and my son was out on the school ground having his picture taken and he saw it all.

I was a little upset to know my son actually chased his bike with his school teacher, but they couldn't catch it. My boyfriend who works for a local company in town, heard on his radio that 2 bikes were stolen from a local school ground in Penticton. I was at home listening and hoping it wasn't my sons.

Well the school phoned and it was confirmed it was his bike. I couldn't believe that people would go onto a elementary school ground and steal bikes, none the less walk onto a school ground with bolt cutters and cut the locks! I have finally come to the realization that even when you take the time, care and attention and lock your bike...its not really safe. Who really expects someone to be wandering around with bolt cutters?????.

Even to this day my son who is 11, will not ride his bike to school and is afraid when he sees teens (as he calls them) on the streets when he is riding. The happy ending to this story is I had been on a day off from my job that day, and had gone to get gas for my pickup and take a ride around to look for his bike, and while pulling out of the gas station, well I see my sons bike ride by in front of me, so I followed it home. It was confirmed it was my sons bike and needless to say the crook was caught! Not every story has a happy ending but I got lucky....And crime doesn't pay!

S.L.
