I have been on the hunt for moorage for a houseboat in Kelowna for about a week now, with no success. I am a member of the Kelowna Yacht Club, and there is a five year wait list there. I decided to check Shelter Bay Marina with the same result. The Eldorado Marina is full, Westbank Yacht Club doesn't accept houseboats, Peachland Yacht Club doesn't accept houseboats over 30 feet, and Summerland Yacht Club is full as well. As a last resort, I called the District of Peachland to see if I was able to purchase a buoy in Trepanier Bay. Apparently they do not sell buoy's anymore!
Obviously, there is a problem. Not everyone lives on the lake and has their own private dock. The current Yacht Clubs and Marinas should expand their moorage facilities so as to accommodate people with boats. A five year waiting list is pretty discouraging. Just not acceptable.
